Scholar Profile

Andrea Cazales is a member of the 6th cohort of Hillman Scholars and earned her BSN in May 2019. She is interested in examining culturally tailored diabetes self-management education interventions in the Latino/Hispanic Population. Andrea visited Peru where she volunteered in clinics for disabled children, hospitals, nursing homes, HIV/AIDs assisted living homes, and ambulances services for six weeks. She gained perspective on the impact of well-known components of the Peruvian culture such as the role of family, traditional lifestyles/food, and language in creating nursing care plans. She is known for always having a bottle of Franks Red Hot Sauce on her and she enjoys paddle boarding.
